Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner
(formerly Aspen DPO)
Optimizes the assets and economics of your distribution network
Additional Resources
Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner is a powerful economic planning tool that solves multi-commodity, multi-period transport optimization problems related to allocating resources—including transportation, raw materials, sales demands, or processing facilities—and balances them to maximize profitability. Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner is a core element of aspenONE® Supply and Distribution for Refining and Marketing.
Features
- Model the Distribution Problem: Improve profits by using a linear programming model to optimize the assets and economics of distributing multiple commodities using multiple modes of transportation over multiple time periods. At any node in the network materials may be produced or consumed, purchased, sold, or exchanged, transported or inventoried.
- Optimal Distribution Plans: Generate optimal feedstock and product distribution plans for multiple time periods at various levels of granularity (days, weeks, months, etc.).
- Early Detection of Supply/Demand Problems: Forecast and proactively evaluate supply and demand problems before they occur.
- Terminal Management: Improve asset utilization, rationalization of terminals, and reduction of average inventory level at terminals. Increase visibility of demand, production, inventory and distribution constraints, and reduce the cost for safety stock.
- Exchange Management: Evaluate make vs. trade vs. exchange decisions, including multiple nodes, multiple products per exchange contract, and even exchanges across time periods. Enable the user to maximize leverage of exchange agreements.
- What-if Analysis: Evaluate alternative strategies and tactical maneuvers, as well as the impact of new markets, new terminals, or government regulations. Study the impact of adding or removing terminals, tanks, and transportation modes or contracts.
- Integrated Planning: Integrate key data flows in Aspen Petroleum Supply Chain Planner are integrated with Aspen PIMS Advanced Optimization, Aspen Collaborative Demand Manager, Aspen Petroleum Scheduler and Aspen Inventory Management & Operations Scheduling as a part of a holistic approach to optimizing the petroleum supply chain.
Benefits
- Reduce Overall Distribution Costs: Evaluate options such as alternate sourcing locations and exchanges. LP optimization of the distribution network helps make long- and near-term transportation decisions.
- Reduce Inventory: Re-optimize terminal inventory during seasonal changeovers, turnarounds, shutdowns, slowdowns, and market upsets.
- Network Asset Rationalization: Enables strategic planning for capital asset investments by allowing the user to study effects of adding or removing assets such as terminals or changes customer locations.
- Solve Problems with Speed and Accuracy: Accelerate decision making with sound financial justification, promote sound judgment through accurate allocation assessments, and facilitate better teamwork and communication.
